Their colour is just one thing that makes them special. Not all budgies are green, though. Since the 1850s, breeders have been working to produce a wide range of colour mutations. Budgerigars who live in the wild, on the other hand, need a certain camouflage to trick predators... they're not that easy to spot!
Some day I'd love to see a post with all the possible color variations and breeds ;-)
