Australia's Oldest Budgie
According to the Guinness World Book of Records, the oldest budgie ever lived in England. His name was Charlie, and he reached the age of 29 years!
Now people tried to find out if there's any pet budgie in Australia that is approaching Charlie's age. They received a letter from Betty Cummings, who lives in New South Wales. Betty has a male blue budgie called "Pretty Boy", who is 26 years old. Pretty Boy's breeder confirmed the age. Betty, age 78, lost her husband two years earlier, and now the budgie keeps her company.
It is possible that Pretty Boy is the oldest budgie in Australia at the moment - he may even break Charlie's record as the oldest budgie in recorded history. This could be a nice coincidence, given that budgies are originally Australian birds :)

Wow. I wonder how they manage to live so long? There must be something special about these budgies :)
ReplyDeleteThey can live long if you give them the right diet, let them fly around each day, give them toys to play with, and a budgie companion (it's cruel to keep your budgie apart), in short, you have to make them happy and give them the life they deserve. They will in turn reward you for making them happy by living by your side as long as possible :)
ReplyDeleteThat budgie is exactly like mine, my one acts weird and cute sometimes . nice shot!

ReplyDeletemy budgie is going on 11 years now, so im pretty glad that hes been around this long. got him when i was 8. wish i had known back then to get him a companion, because as i got older and he did as well he became lonelier and seemingly depressed. i'd do my best to entertain him by leaving the tv on for him when no one is home. its good enough for him since it gets his attention.
ReplyDeleteIs he still alive?

ReplyDeleteI would like to know too! I looked him up but no more updated were posted since last time... I hope that is good news!!!

DeleteWow, you guys are lucky to have budgies that live long. Mine died today and I am so sad. I don't know his exact age but I got the two of them about 6 or 7 years ago I think. His buddy is now alone in his cage. Like most birds, they go downhill very fast...today was the first sign of him not feeling well (lethargic, weak) and he was dead within a few hours. I'm so sad.
ReplyDeleteMy budgie just dropped dead in a thunderstorm I was devistated
ReplyDeletethe poor thing was named Loui and only lived six months
DeleteOur pet budgie frank is 15 years now the local pet shop he came from is no longer there but we dated him from when we moved house in 2007 and we had him for a long time before that, he is a blue budgie and he now lives in my bedroom. for nearly all his life he sat in a cage on top of the hot water system in the laundry. he loves only bird sticks from coles, and is a loved member of the family. He seems in good health and is very happy bird. i always keep the cage clean and change the water daily and he has a shower every week through summer. He loves his mirror and has a swing but most of all he loves his food.
ReplyDeleteMy budgie is also blue male. He is 15 years old now. He can't fly anymore, only walking. I think he will not be a record breaker, but I hope that he will reach at least his 20.
